These days, there's a new way of looking at websites. Think of using a site: which do you appreciate more, a site which looks great, or a site you find easy to use? In the past the first consideration often beat the second. Now a website is seen as a user interface, i.e. something to use to help you do something, like find information or buy something.
How many people have given up on a purchase because they couldn't get the buy button to work, or given up trying to contact someone because they couldn't find the contact section? The way a site looks is still important, but its design should always support what the site does and help people find what they are looking for in as short a time as possible.
