Content Management Systems(CMS)
What is a CMS?
A CMS is a website that has been programmed so that someone with no knowledge of HTML (the language in which web pages are written) can update it.
A CMS enables you to:
- Have complete control over maintaining and updating your site via an online web interface. You will be able to update all site sections, content, images and web video to keep information current.
- Upload PDF and Word documents to relevant sections.
- Assign permissions to different members of staff to edit different content areas on the site.
CMS Options
There are different types of CMS; the one you choose will depend on how large and complex your site is.
We use two different CMS systems:
Option 1: A WordPress CMS
This is designed for smaller sites and is a cost-effective option.
Advantages:
- Cheap to set up.
- Very easy to administrate.
Disadvantages:
- Unwieldy for larger sites.
- Less features.
Cost: A ballpark figure is £1500 - £2500. *
Option 2: A Joomla CMS
This CMS is designed for larger sites.
Advantages:
- More advanced functionality.
- Easy to add on features at a later stage.
Disadvantages:
- More expensive to set up.
- A little harder to administrate.
Cost: A ballpark figure is £3500 - £6000, depending on functionality required. *
* Rough costs above include design and development, initial search engine optimisation and training. VAT is included. A detailed breakdown of costs can be provided after a free initial consultation.
